Denver Hair Reduction Services

Hair can be removed from practically any area on your body that you desire, including the face, legs, back, arms and even underarms. The type of hair removal that is ideal for you depends on a number of factors including your hair color, texture, skin color and what is causing the superfluous hair on your body.

Superfluous or excessive hair (sometimes called hirsutism) can be a result of congenital or systemic conditions or even medications that cause abnormal hair growth like steroids and birth control pills. Congenital conditions—your genetic blueprint, if you will—determines the amount, location and timing of your hair growth. Candidates for hair removal from Mediterranean areas and those with Middle East ancestry may have a tendency toward increased facial and body hair. Hormonal or other internal problems can result in unwanted body or facial hair too. These problems are considered to be “systemic” and your technician may refer you to your physician for a medical evaluation if you’ve recently noticed a change in the amount, texture or color of hair your body produces.

Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics uses two methods of hair reduction including Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis.

Laser Hair Reduction

Recent advances in hair removal using medical lasers means a safer, gentler and faster solution to your problem of unwanted hair. Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics uses two lasers to treat unwanted hair—the Cynosure Laser with TKS and the Apogee Elite.

Cynosure Laser Hair Reduction

In as few as three to four treatments, this gentle beam of laser light can reduce unwanted hair on men and women. This relatively quick and painless treatment uses a laser that emits a gentle beam of energy that passes through the skin to the hair follicle. The energy is then transformed into heat which damages the follicle. The scientific principle called Thermokinetic Selectivity (TKS) makes this method of hair removal particularly effective.

The only untreatable areas are those adjacent to the eyes. Fair-skinned patients with dark hair are the ideal candidates, although patients with darker complexions can be treated after a successful test patch. Blonde hair does not respond to laser treatment. If you have a tan, wait until your tan subsides before receiving laser treatment.

Nearly everyone is a candidate for hair reduction with the Cynosure laser. Because hair grows in cycles, the laser only affects hair when it is in its early-growth phase. The laser disables follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of treatment. At any time, some hair follicles on everyone’s body are dormant. For that reason, repeat sessions are scheduled to treat the follicles when they re-enter the growth phase.

If you have a tan, wait until your tan subsides before receiving laser treatment. Results vary even with the best lasers available.

Depending on how large an area is being treated, this procedure can last from a few minutes to more than one hour. The hair is treated with a beam of concentrated laser light that selectively absorbs the melanin in the hair shaft as well as the surrounding hair follicles. Laser procedures can treat hundreds of hair follicles at a time, unlike electrolysis which kills one hair follicle at a time.

For best results, treatments are performed approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart. Lasers tend to treat hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, therefore more than one treatment is generally required to disable hair follicles still growing.

You may return to work immediately following laser treatment. Expect some swelling immediately after treatment. This is temporary and cold compresses may be used to reduce swelling. A burning sensation may last for 24 hours after treatment and pain medication is prescribed.

The treated area may look and feel slightly sun burnt. Blisters and burns are extremely rare but do occur, particularly to patients with dark skin. Avoid sun exposure during your treatment schedule and wash the treated areas twice daily with cold water and mild soap. Repeat the process for three to five days or until healing is complete. Although some hair may still be present, do not shave. You will notice less and less hair over the course of your treatments.

Apogee Elite Laser

Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics’ trained laser technicians use the Apogee Elite laser to treat unwanted hair. This revolutionary new laser emits a beam of light that heats the target area or hair follicle and the light energy damages the target while sparing the surrounding skin. In addition to treating unwanted hair, the Apogee Elite treats small facial veins, bluish-purple leg veins and spider veins. And it works on all skin types including dark and tanned skin.

The number of sessions needed to treat unwanted hair using the Apogee Elite laser depends on the selected treatments and the skin and hair type. Sessions are usually 10 to 15 minutes long, although larger areas, like full leg, may take longer.

After treatment, exfoliation will occur naturally in 7 to 14 days and during this time, you may shave if you wish, but plucking is discouraged. Immediately after treatment with the Apogee Elite laser, you may resume your normal activities although a sunscreen may be recommended.

This remarkable laser gently erases your skin’s minor imperfections, uncovering a more confidant and radiant you. Results vary with each patient, but in some cases, one treatment may be sufficient while others might required two to six treatments before results are noticible.

Electrolysis

The only proven method of permanent hair removal is Electrolysis. A low level electrical current is sent down a very fine sterilized probe that is inserted along the hair shaft, destroying the papilla and loosening the hair shaft for easy removal, making it impossible for the hair to grow again in the same hair follicle.

Our licensed technicians at Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics use FDA-approved Needle Epilators, the most up-to-date methods and equipment to ensure the most comfortable and effective treatment for our patients.

Needle Epilation hurts very little, if at all. There’s a slight feeling of warmth at the follicle when the current is applied, lasting but an instant. The “Blend” method used at Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics adjusts to multiple comfort levels, customized to the patient’s sensitivity of the area being treated.

Electrolysis can be used on any part of the body except within the ear and nose. Even large areas such as arms and legs can be addressed using Electrolysis. The length of treatment and the number of treatments depends on how much hair is being treated, and if you’ve been tweezing or waxing for some time, undergoing Electrolysis may actually smooth and improve your skin.

Vaniqa® for unwanted facial hair

Unwanted facial hair is hard to cover up. Vaniqa is the only FDA-approved prescription cream that is clinically proven to reduce the growth of unwanted facial hair. Women who tweeze, shave or wax unwanted facial hair report that there is no longer a need for any of those manual systems or that they are greatly reduced.

Vaniqua works by slowing the growth of the hair rather than just removing it. Results are evident on almost all patients within 4 – 6 weeks when used twice a day every day, although some patients report longer treatment is necessary to see the amazing difference.

Unwanted facial hair can range from a few individual hairs on the chin, a light growth on the upper lip, peach fuzz on the cheeks or course, dark hair in any of these areas. Nearly 41 million women in the United States remove unwanted hair at least once in six months, with 20% reporting that they remove unwanted hair at least weekly and 4% being consumed with removing it daily.

The most common treatments to remove facial hair historically have ranged from cutting facial hair to dissolving it or lightening it or waxing it, and yet all of these treatments are means to remediate the evidence of the hair after it grows. Vaniqa is different in that it discourages the hair growth to begin with. Plus Vaniqa can be used in companion with the other methods of hair reduction.

Vaniqa contains 13.9% effornithine HCI cream and works during the growth stage of the hair cycle by blocking an enzyme in the follicle that is necessary for hair to grow. Applied in a thin layer, Vaniqa is sometimes covered by insurance, so be sure to check with yours. And the cost, even if it isn’t covered, is only about $1 a day.
