BLU-U

Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics uses the BLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator Model 4170 to control moderate acne.

The BLU-U is a special blue light that can kill the p. acnes bacteria in your skin. Treatments are simple: you sit with your face close to the BLU-U light for a short time, usually a 15-minute session once or twice a week, depending on the schedule Dr. Raval recommends specifically for your condition.

Approved for use by the FDA in 2003 for the treatment of moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris, The BLU-U light treats the tiny glands called sebaceous glands that lie just beneath the surface of the skin. The natural function of these glands is to collect and excrete the oily substance called sebum to keep the skin healthy. However, sometimes the tiny pathway for the sebum to escape becomes clogged and a bacterium called p. acnes grows inside. When that happens the area swells up and forms a pimple on the skin, a condition that can become very active at certain times in one’s life.

BLU-U treatments may be recommended for up to five weeks with periodic maintenance treatments ongoing. BLU-U is safe, not hot and not painful at all. Levulan PDT—Photodynamic therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan that activates the correct wavelength of light to treat actinic keratosis. Levulan is used in conjunction with IPL and Blu-Light treatments.

The treatment is administered in a series and can include the entire face, neck neck and chest or décolletage. No systemic anesthetic is required as the procedure is incredibly easy to tolerate. Treatment time takes approximately 20 minutes per session and there is no downtime; the patient is able to return to work or home and resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

A few days after each treatment the patient experiences some peeling. After the series of treatments, there is a significant reduction in acne, unwanted pigmentation and blotchiness in the skin. These results will be long lasting. In addition the skin will be firmer and have a more consistent texture.
